About the Project
The Manantiales Behr Wind Farm, located in Chubut Province, Argentina, is a significant renewable energy project contributing to the country’s green energy goals. Commissioned in 2018 and developed by YPF Luz, this 99-megawatt wind farm supports Argentina’s target of 20% non-hydro renewables by 2025. Through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and carbon offsets, Provision plays a crucial role in promoting such impactful projects, reinforcing their dedication to a cleaner, greener future.
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) Explained
100% renewable electricity is included automatically in every Provision electricity supply plan, and we use renewable energy certificates, or RECs, to deliver on our clean energy promise. Homes are connected to the power grid by transmission lines, and the electricity that’s supplied is derived from a variety of generation resources, both renewable and non-renewable. This is because when clean energy is generated and put on the grid, it’s mixed with other fuel sources, making it difficult for environmentally conscious consumers to supply their homes with 100% clean energy.
Provision ensures more clean energy is put on the grid by funding renewable generators by purchasing RECs. These certificates support electricity generation equal to the volume consumed by Provision customers, thus leading to a cleaner grid and delivering on pour 100% clean energy promise. So far, Provision customers have helped fund over 70,000 Megawatt-hours (mWh) of renewable electricity using RECs.
How It Works
The Manantiales Behr Wind Farm harnesses the powerful Patagonian winds using 15 Vestas Wind Systems V112-3.3 MW turbines, each capable of producing substantial electricity. The project operates in two phases, each contributing 49.5 MW to the grid. The turbines convert wind energy into electricity, which is then transmitted to the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) to supply power to local communities.

The Manantiales Behr Wind Farm significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions by offsetting approximately 241,600 tons of CO2 annually. It creates 25 permanent jobs, providing stable employment opportunities for the community. Additionally, the project supports local businesses and promotes infrastructure development, boosting the region’s economic growth. Impact is calculated based on our customers’ billings in the impact month, but planting, funding, and offsetting may not happen in that month.
