Provision customers make a positive impact in up to three ways:

For each area, impact is calculated based on our customers’ billings in the impact month, but planting, funding, and offsetting may not happen in that month. These activities must align with planting seasons and project life cycles to be effective.

Let’s Break Down Each Area of Impact

If you have CarbonBetter electricity supply through Provision, you’ll see your last month’s impact here. Provision matches your electricity usage through renewable energy credits (RECs) so you’re funding the same amount of clean energy generation as you’re using. In this way, you’re neutralizing your impact, but you’re also putting more clean energy on the power grid for all to use.

If you have CarbonBetter natural gas supply through Provision, you’ll see your last month’s impact here. Provision offsets the carbon released by your natural gas use through carbon offsets, which fund projects that capture and/or store carbon. In this way, you’re neutralizing your impact, but you’re also funding projects that aim to make a long-term impact on our carbon imbalance.

If you’re a Provision customer of any type on CarbonBetter energy, you’re helping us to plant trees! Trees take our energy plans beyond “carbon neutral” because they “clean” the air of carbon and use it to grow through photosynthesis. We partner with OKO Forests and non-profit reforestation organizations that collaborate with the US Forest Services and state and local governments.
