About the Project

The Condon Wind Power Project, a 49.8 megawatts (MW) multi-phase endeavor located in Gilliam County, Oregon, was developed by AES SeaWest and is currently owned by ALLETE Clean Energy. The project comprises 83 MWT-600 wind turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 0.6 MW.

Provision, a renewable energy company, has purchased Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for this project. As a result, the Condon Wind Power Project supplies clean, reliable energy to approximately 11,000 homes while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an estimated 152,000 metric tons annually.

Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) Explained

100% renewable electricity is included automatically in every Provision electricity supply plan, and we use renewable energy certificates, or RECs, to deliver on our clean energy promise. Homes are connected to the power grid by transmission lines, and the electricity that’s supplied is derived from a variety of generation resources, both renewable and non-renewable. This is because when clean energy is generated and put on the grid, it’s mixed with other fuel sources, making it difficult for environmentally conscious consumers to supply their homes with 100% clean energy.

Provision ensures more clean energy is put on the grid by funding renewable generators by purchasing RECs. These certificates support electricity generation equal to the volume consumed by Provision customers, thus leading to a cleaner grid and delivering on pour 100% clean energy promise. So far, Provision customers have helped fund over 70,000 Megawatt-hours (mWh) of renewable electricity using RECs.

How the Condon Wind Power Project Works

The Condon Wind Power Project uses advanced wind turbine technology to generate electricity. It is connected to the power grid via underground cables running from each turbine to a substation. At the substation, the electricity generated by the turbines is stepped up to a higher voltage using transformers, allowing it to be transported more efficiently through the power grid. The electricity is then distributed to homes and businesses through power lines.

To maximize wind turbine efficiency, the project uses advanced computer models and control systems that allow the turbines to operate at optimal levels in various wind conditions. The turbines are also equipped with sensors and monitoring systems that provide real-time data on each turbine’s performance. This data is used to optimize the turbines’ operation and identify and resolve any issues that may arise.

In addition to its advanced technology, the Condon Wind Power Project is designed to minimize its environmental impact. The turbines are located in areas with high wind resources, which reduces the need for additional infrastructure and helps to mitigate the project’s overall footprint. The project also considers the needs of local wildlife, and steps have been taken to reduce the project’s impact on birds and other animals.

Project Benefits

In addition to generating renewable energy, the Condon Wind Power Project offers several benefits to the local community and the broader region, including:

  • Economic Benefits: The project created jobs during the construction and operation phases, providing an economic boost to the local region. The project also generates revenue for the local community through lease agreements and taxes.
  • Reduced Emissions: The project helps to reduce GHG emissions and other pollutants associated with traditional fossil-fuel-based energy production. This has a positive impact on air and water quality, as well as on public health.
  • Public Education: The Condon Wind Power Project provides an opportunity for the public to learn about renewable energy and the benefits of wind power.
  • Grid Reliability: The project helps improve the electricity grid’s reliability by providing a stable source of power that is not subject to fluctuations in fuel prices or availability.
Conclusion

The Condon Wind Power Project is a 49.8 MW onshore wind power project in Gilliam County, Oregon, USA, consisting of two phases with 83 turbines. Developed by AES SeaWest and currently owned by ALLETE Clean Energy, it provides clean and reliable energy to approximately 11,000 homes. It also represents a significant investment in renewable energy and a commitment to a sustainable future.

By supporting the Condon Wind Power Project through Provision, you are contributing to a more sustainable future by reducing GHG emissions and promoting renewable energy sources. Your support also helps to create jobs and generate revenue for the local community. Provision makes it easy to offset your carbon footprint and support sustainable energy projects that benefit the environment. Switch to Provision and make a positive impact on the planet through your energy consumption!

Every Provision Customer Makes a Difference

Clean Energy

You fund clean energy generation when we offset 100% of your power usage with RECs.
