When you start on your Provision CarbonBetter natural gas plan, we go to work for you by purchasing carbon offset credits that match the amount of carbon released by your natural gas use. In this way, you have neutralized the carbon footprint from your natural gas use, and you’ve helped fund projects that work to reduce carbon in the atmosphere. But we don’t stop there – we also plant trees to capture carbon, taking you from carbon neutral to CarbonBetter.

We partner with non-profit reforestation organizations that collaborate with the US Forest Services, state and local governments, and private landowners in the US and abroad to identify areas that are ideal for planting and long-term growth. One such partnership is with the Kokrobitey Institute and OKO Forests in Kumasi, Ghana to co-fund the development of a community agroforest in an area adjacent to the Kogyae Strict Nature Reserve. These plantings will not only deliver a lifetime of carbon sequestration, but they also create dignified work and cash crops for local communities. We also partner with the National Forest Foundation, which plants in America’s national forest system, and Green Forests Work, which restores forests on formerly mined lands in Appalachia.

No, you’ll still get your typical combined bill from your local utility. Provision will be listed as your “supply” or “generation” charge. This just means that you have CarbonBetter energy supplied by Provision, and it will be in place of your previous energy supply charges. There are no additional fees added for choosing Provision – we will just become your supplier of choice.

Provision is different because we’re only focused on your CarbonBetter energy supply: we work hard to maintain affordable pricing options, we partner with the most impactful projects to purchase your credits, and we find the best locations and partners for planting your trees. While we are focused on your energy supply, your utility will always handle delivering your energy supply to you, maintaining the pipes and wires that go to your home, emergency response, and all of your billing. Your utility can also supply your energy, but your utility is not CarbonBetter certified to deliver supply that includes 100% clean energy, plus planting trees.

Our CarbonBetter Month-to-Month plan is our most popular plan, and it’s really simple: each month you’ll pay the current market rate for your CarbonBetter energy supply. Customers love this plan because the unit price of energy each month reflects the actual cost of the supply, whereas our Annual and Unlimited (where available) plans are one set amount per unit or per month for 12 months.

Our CarbonBetter Annual plan offers you one rate per unit for your energy supply that will not change for the next 12 months. You won’t feel the effects of any changes in the market on a monthly basis because your rate will not change for the entire term. Our Annual plan is very popular for its price stability and predictable billing that only adjusts when usage increases or decreases with the seasons.

CarbonBetter plans go beyond carbon neutral by not only offsetting 100% of your energy usage, but by also planting trees, which are carbon-capturing powerhouses. For each unit of energy you use, we’ll purchase credits on your behalf, which fund projects creating clean energy, in the case of electricity, or projects that are reducing carbon emissions, in the case of natural gas. For every unit of energy you use, you’re doing an equal amount of positive through your investment in these projects. You’re also planting trees as you use energy, which captures carbon already in the atmosphere.
